Find Kent County Federal Releases

To find someone released from the Federal Bureau of Prisons system after a Kent County or Grand Rapids case, begin with the federal custodian rather than the county jail roster. A sentenced federal prisoner may appear in the federal inmate locator with a release date and status. A federal pretrial detainee may instead remain under federal transport and holding arrangements outside a prison. Leaving the county jail can also mean transfer into federal custody. Each stage requires its own record, and a person who has left federal prison custody may still face another hold or community supervision.

Kent County Federal Release Paths

The Federal Bureau of Prisons is a national prison system, not a Kent County jail. A person prosecuted in Grand Rapids may be held before sentencing through U.S. Marshals Service arrangements. After a federal prison sentence begins, BOP designates the place of confinement. That facility may be far from Kent County, and the federal release record follows the person rather than the county where the case began.

A BOP release can lead to the community under a federal supervised-release order, but it can also end in transfer to another custodian. State custody, ICE detention, or another lawful hold can follow. BOP’s own release-statistics method separates transfers to another custodial jurisdiction from ordinary releases. That makes “left BOP” narrower than “returned to the Kent County community.”

If the person first appeared at KCCF, a KCSO movement record can identify a receiving agency such as USMS. It proves departure from county custody, not later release from the federal system. The Western District of Michigan docket supplies the detention or release order, while the actual custodian confirms physical movement.

Important: “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” does not rule out another custodian, federal supervision, or a later immigration hold.

Search Kent County Federal Releases

The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present. Search by a federal identifier when possible because it points to one record. Name searches need careful identity checks.

  1. Enter the BOP register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number when known. Otherwise search by name.
  2. Use age, race, and sex filters only as identity checks supported by the locator.
  3. Compare the returned name and register number with the federal case rather than relying on spelling alone.
  4. Record the displayed location or status and release date exactly. Do not rewrite the label as unrestricted release.
  5. Read the Western District of Michigan docket for detention, sentencing, release, and supervised-release orders.
  6. If the person was moved from KCCF, request the KCSO movement destination and ask the named federal custodian about the later event.

The BOP locator information explains that a person outside BOP custody may be held by another correctional or law-enforcement system or may remain on parole or supervised release. A release date is useful historical evidence, but it is not a universal custody clearance.

A BOP name result should also be tied to the register number and federal case. Age, race, and sex filters help distinguish identities but do not replace the identifier. If the release date changes, preserve the earlier capture and use the live locator as the current BOP statement. First Step Act review is one documented reason a projected federal date may be recalculated.

The Kent County released-inmate record path can reconcile a local booking with the later federal trail when both systems are involved.

Note: Last checked July 24, 2026; save the exact BOP label and date because federal records can be recalculated or updated.

Kent County Federal Record Contacts

No BOP-operated institution was verified in Kent County, so there is no local BOP prison desk to call as if it were KCCF. Route the question to the agency that owns the stage of custody.

Federal Bureau of Prisons
Use the BOP Inmate Locator for a sentenced federal prisoner and its displayed status or release date.

U.S. Marshals Service
Use the responsible federal district and custodian for pretrial detention, transport, and movement questions.

Western District of Michigan court record
Use the federal docket and clerk for detention, sentencing, release, and supervised-release orders.

KCSO Records
701 Ball Avenue NE, Grand Rapids

Use only for the KCCF booking or county movement event.

The U.S. Marshals prisoner information describes the agency’s role with federal detainees and transport. It does not provide a general public historical released-prisoner locator like BOP. A federal pretrial release therefore depends on the court order plus confirmation from the actual custodian.

Kent County Federal Record Fields

The BOP result and federal docket answer different questions. The locator identifies a federal prison record and reported release status. The docket supplies legal authority and conditions. A county record, when one exists, covers only the KCCF event.

SourceUseful fieldsLimit
BOP locatorName, register number, age, race, sex, location or status, release dateDoes not clear other custody or supervision
Federal docketCase number, detention order, judgment, sentence, release order, supervised-release termsLegal authority may not give exact physical movement time
USMS or actual custodianPretrial custody and transport information that can be disclosedNo general historical release search
KCSO movement recordKCCF departure date, type, and receiving agency when recordedDoes not prove release from the receiving federal agency
ICE ODLSQualifying current or recent immigration custody resultICE-specific and subject to search limits

If BOP says released while ICE returns a result, report both events. The BOP departure and the immigration custody period can be true at the same time. Do not delete the ICE status or describe the BOP date as community return.

Kent County Federal Custody Stages

The most reliable federal release account keeps each stage separate. A local arrest or KCCF booking is one event. USMS pretrial custody is another. BOP imprisonment follows designation after sentence. Federal supervised release begins in the community under the federal court’s order, and a separate state or immigration hold can interrupt that path.

Federal pretrial detention
Custody before judgment, often managed through USMS arrangements rather than a BOP prison.
BOP custody
Confinement under the federal prison system after designation.
Released
The BOP locator’s historical status that must be read with the release date and other custodians.
Not in BOP custody
A BOP-specific statement that does not establish unrestricted community presence.
Supervised release
A federal court term served in the community after imprisonment under stated conditions.
Transfer
Movement to another custodian, which is not the same as community release.

A federal release date may be recalculated, including through First Step Act reviews. Preserve the date as a source field and check the live result. Do not build a new date from a percentage or assume the original projected date remained controlling.

Federal supervised release is a court term, not BOP imprisonment. A person may be outside prison and still subject to the federal judgment. The docket should be read for its conditions and later modifications. If another agency takes custody at the prison gate, the federal release date and receiving-agency intake describe two linked events rather than a contradiction.

Note: The court establishes legal authority, while the custodian establishes the physical movement it carried out.

No Kent County BOP Institution

As of July 24, 2026, the official-source sweep did not identify a BOP-operated prison physically in Kent County. This is a bounded negative finding. It does not mean no person from Kent County enters federal custody, and it does not rule out short-term contract or transport arrangements outside the public facility map.

The local effect is practical. A Grand Rapids prosecution does not create a Kent County federal release list. The person may be detained through USMS, designated to a BOP facility elsewhere, and later released under a Western District of Michigan order. Search by person and federal identifier, not by an assumed local institution.

The same research found no active ICE detention center in Kent County and no primary source showing KCCF as a current ICE contract detention facility. If KCSO records “other agency,” ask for the receiving agency. Do not decide that the transfer was federal, immigration, or community release from the roster disappearance alone.

Note: No local BOP address should be inferred from a Kent County prosecution or a KCCF transfer record.

Obtain Kent County Federal Release Proof

Start with the record that fits the event. Save the BOP locator result for a sentenced prisoner. Obtain the federal docket entries and orders for detention, judgment, release, and supervision. Ask USMS or the actual holding facility about its own physical movement, subject to the information it can release.

For a KCCF-to-federal movement, the Kent County FOIA process can be used to request the county release or movement record. Name the person, booking number, date range, and receiving agency or destination field sought. The county response proves what KCSO recorded, not what happened after federal intake.

If sources conflict, keep the dates in order: court detention or release order, KCCF departure, federal intake, BOP release, and start of supervised release. Another custodial event can follow. Contact each source about its own field rather than averaging dates or choosing the newest screen.

Michigan OTIS and MI-VINE are not the principal BOP search. They may explain a separate state or county event, but a federal sentence belongs in the BOP locator and federal court record. This custody-specific routing is the only safe way to describe a Kent County federal release.

A no-result in BOP requires the same restraint. It may reflect identity error, a pretrial USMS arrangement, a sentence outside the locator’s published time coverage, or a person held by another system. Recheck the number and federal case before contacting the actual custodian. Do not replace a missing federal record with a Kent Jail Viewer conclusion.
